For on the internet, people are claiming prayer is not the key to success, but hard work, back-breaking labor; comparing how countries that are not religious seem to be prospering more than us.

This popular secular argument creates a false narrative by confusing temporal, material wealth with true, eternal prosperity. But there is no way in the Bible it is written that only prayer yields wealth, success, and rich nations who don’t know God won’t prosper. In fact, in the Bible, I’ve discovered that all the nations who fought with the Israelites were very prosperous, that key nations had to do away with their boots.

Pagan nations throughout scripture possessed immense material riches despite worshipping idols. Saul spared King Agag in 1 Samuel 15 because he was extremely wealthy. Similarly, in 2 Chronicles 20, the Israelites took vast riches, clothing, and precious jewels after they defeated the armies of Moab, Ammon & Mount Seir. God’s general providence allows non-believers to enjoy physical resources through natural laws of work and cause, but secular prosperity without God is fleeting, spiritually hollow, and devoid of eternal value.

True success for a Christian is not measured merely by physical accumulation, but by fulfilling God’s purpose through the Holy Spirit’s power. Hard work without divine direction yields empty glory, but work empowered by the Spirit produces lasting joy, peace, and divine impact that survives eternity.

How to Depend Fully on the Spirit: Applying Proverbs 16:3
