I don’t know how you understand God—I mean the nature, His word, and above all the impact upon your personal life. Probably you might have been struggling hard all your life to be close to God, serve Him either selflessly or with the hope of getting whatever you seek from Him, only to discover that the more you seek to understand Him, the farther you feel within from Him. I urge you to stick with me to the end of today’s reflection because it might be the Holy Spirit trying to connect you so you can really get to understand how God enables human beings to understand or know Him.
Many sincere believers spend years exhausting their energy, mental capacity, and emotional strength in an effort to reach God through self-effort, legalism, or human philosophy. Yet, spiritual reality cannot be decoded by intellect alone. The gap between human limitation and divine perfection is far too vast to be bridged by goodwill or religious striving. When we come to the end of our own strength and yield to divine grace, God steps in to initiate a deep, internal transformation that allows us to walk in genuine communion with Him.
Throughout Holy Scripture, true spiritual awakening is consistently portrayed not as a human achievement, but as an act of sovereign grace. When God restores a person, He transforms their heart, giving them the spiritual capacity to perceive His truth, walk in His commands, and experience true fellowship. By examining the prophetic promises given through Jeremiah, we uncover the divine secret to knowing God intimately and resting in His unmerited favor.
What Does Jeremiah 24:7 Mean?
The meaning of Jeremiah 24:7 centers on God’s divine promise to bestow upon His people a new heart capable of knowing Him intimately, declaring that He will be their God and they shall be His people as they return to Him with their whole heart. From what we discover in today’s Bible verse for reflection, it is God who gives human beings the heart to know Him, and no matter how far we humans seem from God, He is the only one who can return us back to Him with our whole heart. And so we discover that our human efforts are not even needed when it comes to really knowing who God is.
Looking at Matthew 16:13-17 as our supporting scripture, in this passage we observe that Peter did not purposely declare Jesus to be the Son of God out of human intellect, but he had that inspiration through God the Father. When Jesus asked His disciples, “Whom say ye that I am?”, Peter replied, “Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.” Jesus immediately noted, “Flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.” This proves that divine revelation always originates from God, not human deduction.
Human Revelation versus Divine Inspiration
In one of our lectures back in school on Islamic Studies, I discovered that Jesus (known as Isa in Arabic) is mentioned by name 25 times in the Quran—more than three times the frequency numerically than Muhammad by name. But the problem is that the Islamic religion accepts Jesus to be a great prophet of God like Muhammad, but they reject the idea of His being the Son of God. And while I was pondering on why that is so, I felt as if someone was behind me saying: “What if that is how I wanted Muhammad to know Him? What then is your business?” Immediately, the Spirit referred me back to Matthew 16:13-17 where Peter declared Jesus as the Son of God through the inspiration of God.
Thus, when you are well aware or equipped with this mystery, you will finally come to the understanding that it is God who draws human beings to Himself, and it doesn’t come from our human efforts. This is why Jesus would conclude for us in John 6:44 that no man can come to Him except the Father which hath sent Him draws him. Human logic and religious study can acquaint a person with historical facts, but only the Holy Spirit can unveil the divine identity of Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.

You can also examine God’s promises of restoration, cleansing, and peace in our complementary studies on jeremiah 33 verse 6 explained and jeremiah 33 verse 9 explained.
Ceasing from Self-Righteous Striving
At this point, we can realize that we should not try so hard to please God by our human effort. Do not think that going to church, joining the choir, paying your tithes and offerings, and all that will automatically make you acceptable to God. While these religious activities are good in themselves, they cannot produce the spiritual rebirth required to truly know God if the heart remains untransformed.
When believers rely on external rituals to gain acceptance with God, they inevitably fall into burnout, pride, or frustration. God does not seek outward religious conformity; He desires truth in the inward parts. Rather than striving to impress God through performative works, we must surrender our self-reliance and ask Him to give us the heart to know Him as He promised in His word.
Understanding the Power of Divine Initiative
The entire narrative of salvation is built upon the truth that God always takes the first step toward humanity. In the Garden of Eden, after humanity fell into sin, it was God who called out to Adam, asking, “Where art thou?” Throughout the history of Israel, God continually sent prophets, raised up deliverers, and established covenants with a people who frequently wandered away. Divine grace means that before we ever thought of searching for God, He was already seeking us.
When you recognize that God is the author and finisher of your faith, the heavy pressure of spiritual performance falls away. You begin to understand that salvation, revelation, and spiritual growth are works of grace received through faith. This shifts your focus from what you are doing for God to what God has already done and is actively doing within you. Yielding to His divine initiative brings deep rest and confidence to your soul.
Walking in the Freedom of Imparted Grace
When God gives you a heart to know Him, your spiritual walk shifts from obligation to delight. Obedience is no longer a heavy burden carried to earn salvation, but a joyful response to the divine love already poured into your heart. Prayer, scripture reading, and fellowship become natural expressions of a living connection with the Almighty God.
This imparted grace frees you from comparing your spiritual journey with others. You begin to recognize that every step of growth, every moment of spiritual understanding, and every victory over sin is a gift from God. As you yield daily to His Spirit, He continually deepens your spiritual perception, enabling you to stand firm in His love regardless of life’s changing circumstances and trials.
Sustaining a Receptive and Humble Heart
While God is the one who bestows the heart to know Him, we are called to keep our hearts receptive to His Spirit. Pride, unconfessed sin, and worldly distractions can dull our spiritual sensitivity if we are not vigilant. Maintaining a healthy spiritual walk requires daily humility, a willingness to be corrected by God’s word, and a constant reliance on the Holy Spirit’s guidance.
When we guard our hearts with all diligence, we create room for God to continue His transformative work within us. A humble heart is quick to repent, eager to learn, and always ready to give God the glory for every spiritual insight and victory. As we abide in Christ day by day, His grace fills our lives, allowing us to bear lasting spiritual fruit and shine as lights in a dark world.
Interactive Reflection and Application
Rather than exhausting yourself through human striving, simply acknowledge God as the Supreme and Almighty God today. Open your heart to Him with no holds barred, and you will see how He will open your heart to know and understand Him deeply. Trust Him to do the inner work that your strength could never accomplish.
Have you been trying to reach God through your own human efforts, or have you experienced the joy of Him imparting a heart to know Him? How has divine revelation transformed your personal walk with Christ? I would love to read your story and perspective, so please leave a comment below!
